From December 1982 on all vehicles «Escort» shock absorbers of a new type were installed. The release of shock absorbers of the old type is discontinued. It is forbidden to install shock absorbers of the old and new types on the same vehicle.
On the cargo-passenger version of the car «Escort» rear suspension (pic. 4.11) consists of a rigid tubular beam, single-leaf springs and telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers.

Spring length 1194 mm, maximum thickness 15 mm, color mark: red-white for model 35; blue for model 55.
Rear wheel hubs (pic. 4 12) made in one piece with brake drums and mounted on two tapered roller bearings.

The bearings are filled with lithium grease according to Ford SM1 C-4515-A specification. On cars «Escort XR3i» And «Orion 1,6 injection» the rear wheel hubs have been changed due to the installation of more powerful brakes. Hubs and brake drums are made as separate parts
On cars «Escort XR3i» suspension springs are reinforced. On cars «Escort RS 1600 i» springs are also installed, marked in purple-orange.
From September 1982, starting with serial no. CB 08622, the hinges of the rear suspension arms were reinforced to improve their performance under maximum loads. New hinges can be installed on previously released cars. Since these hinges are tapered, they can only be installed and removed in one direction. In case of replacement of hinges, adjust the installation of the wheels, ensuring their discrepancy from 0 to 2 mm. From May 1983 to cars «Escort» to improve stability, modified suspension arms were installed: the mount of the inner hinge of the arm was lowered by 25 mm, and the attachment point of the extension to the body was raised by 30 mm, the toe-in became 2.0 mm, the dependence of the toe and camber angles on the load decreased. The new suspension arms and braces are not interchangeable with the old ones. All removed bushings, washers and rings are installed in their original places.
From model year 1984 on cars «Escort» more elastic hinges began to be installed. In case of replacement of hinges on vehicles of earlier releases, do not install old and new hinges on the same axle.
