Removal and installation of suspension spring

Place the rear of the car on stands and remove the wheel from the desired side. Install a jack under the lower support cup of the suspension arm spring. Under the rear storage shelf, remove the plastic cap, unscrew the nut, remove the washer and shock absorber buffer. Unscrew the nut securing the suspension arm to the body and remove the bolt. Lower the jack and remove the spring and cushion, noting its position.

Install the spring in the reverse order of removal. Install cushion and spring to suspension arm. Raise the lever with a jack, install the bolt securing the suspension arm to the body. Install the buffer, washer, tighten the nut and install the plastic shock absorber cap. Install the wheel and lower the car. Tighten the suspension arm-to-body bolt nut and wheel bolts.

On cars «Escort XR3» the plastic bushing of the spring is installed upwards during assembly.
