Disassembly of the steering mechanism of cars produced before May 1983

Remove the protective covers and drain the grease from the crankcase of the mechanism Clamp the steering mechanism in a vice with soft metal lining Using a D34.9 mm drill, drill out the pins of the axial joints of the steering rods (pic. 5.2).

NOTE: Be sure to punch before drilling. not to damage the parts. Drill to a depth of no more than 9.5 mm.


Unscrew housings of axial hinges and locknuts. Remove the hinge housings, steering rods and hinge bearings using special wrenches 13.003-01 and 13 003-02. Unscrew the stopper of the rack, remove the gasket, shims and stop. Remove the drive gear bearing cap, gasket and oil seal. Remove gear with shaft and bearing.

NOTE: In spare parts, the drive gear is supplied complete with a bearing.
