Device Features


The system includes sources of electrical energy, a sensor-distributor. high energy ignition coil, switch, spark plugs, wires and ignition switch. The firing order is 1-3-4-2.

Bosch or Lucas margin gauge (pic. 7.38) four-spark, unshielded. with vacuum and centrifugal ignition timing controllers, with a built-in microelectronic control impulse sensor.

Centrifugal and vacuum regulators automatically change the ignition timing depending on the crankshaft speed and engine load (pic. 7.39-7.44).

Vehicle ignition system «Escort XR3i» has a switch built into the rotor of the sensor-distributor and automatically turns off the ignition when the crankshaft speed reaches 6500 rpm.

Ignition coil


Bosch ignition coil (catalog number 0 221 122 030) or Lucas has a primary winding resistance of 0.72-0.88 ohms, a secondary winding resistance of 4.5-7.0 kOhm. The voltage of the secondary winding is not less than 30,000 V.

Switch


Switch (pic. 7.45) converts the current pulses of the sensor into current pulses in the primary winding of the ignition coil. The commutator is fixed on the body of the sensor-distributor (pic. 7.46).

Spark plug


Motorcraft Super spark plugs. The gap between the electrodes is 0.75 mm for the spark plugs of the LRA engine ignition system, for the rest of the spark plugs - 0.6 mm. Candle types are shown in Table 7.13.


Vacuum Regulator Control Device


The control device for the vacuum regulator of the non-contact ignition system of the LUA engine, in addition to delaying the change in vacuum, increases the vacuum value thanks to a special valve. Delay time to create a vacuum of 200 mm. R. st from 8 to 16 sec. delay valve catalog number D 5 VE - 12 A 208-AA - AB, valve color - green-white.

On cars «Escort» And «Orion» with automatic gearbox, the vacuum regulator has one diaphragm, working to reduce the ignition timing, and one diaphragm, working to increase this angle (pic. 7.47), and the control device for the vacuum regulator is different from the device installed on vehicles with a manual gearbox.

Therefore, the characteristics of the automatic ignition advance differ from the characteristics of other distributor sensors (pic. 7.48).
