Attention! Checking the fluid level in the gearbox should be done when the engine and gearbox are warmed up to normal operating temperature.
1. Park the vehicle on level ground and apply the handbrake.
2. Start the engine in idle mode and, pressing the brake pedal, move the selector lever to all positions, set it to position P, then let the engine run at idle speed for 1 minute.
3. With the engine idling, remove the dipstick to measure the oil level in the gearbox.
4. Wipe the dipstick and reinstall it, then remove it again. The oil level on the dipstick must be between the MIN and MAX marks.
5. If the oil level is low, turn off the engine and add oil through the dipstick tube.
6. Recheck the oil level in the gearbox and reinstall the dipstick. It must be borne in mind that lack of oil can lead to serious damage to the gearbox.
7. There is an identification number on a plate attached to the top of the gearbox. If E3 RP is printed at the end of the second row, then the gearbox is an early type, and if E6 RP, then a late type.
8. When topping up fluid in an automatic transmission, fill only with the prescribed fluid, which is not compatible in early and late models.
9. If it becomes necessary to add oil frequently, then there is a leak that must be found and repaired before it leads to serious consequences.
