Replacing the rear brake pads

Attention. Be sure to replace all the pads on the same axle, even if only one pad has reached their wear limit.


Remove the rear brake drum.

Mark the installation position of the return springs, pressure rod and regulator stand (see fig. 9.22).



Remove the front shoe fastening pin To do this, press the pressure spring and turn the pin 90°. At the same time, hold the pin at the back with your finger, remove the spring and remove the fastening pin (see fig. 9.23).



Remove the front (by location) brake shoe from the shoe support and disconnect the lower return spring.



Squeeze both pads from the wheel brake cylinder and remove them. Do not damage the anthers while doing this. To prevent the pistons from falling out of the working brake cylinder, secure the pistons with an appropriate rubber band or wire (see fig. 9.25, 9.26).






Remove the upper return spring from the brake shoes.

turn back (by location) brake shoe 90°down and disconnect the handbrake cable from the intermediate lever (see fig. 9.27, 9.28).





Disconnect the intermediate lever from the front brake shoe (see fig. 9.29).




Clean the rear brake parts. Apply a lubricant with a high melting point to the contact points of the brake pads with the brake shield (see fig. 9.30).



Install the intermediate arm and upper return spring to the new front (by location) brake shoe (see fig. 9.31).



Install the other end of the upper return spring into the new rear (by location) brake pad, then. turning the block, install it on the expansion bar (see fig. 9.32, 9.33).






Caution The brake pads can also be fitted individually. fastened with pins and clamping springs. Then the return springs must be attached with special tongs.

Remove the rubber band fixing the pistons of the working brake cylinder. Connect the hand brake cable to the intermediate lever of the rear brake shoe and install the shoe on the brake shield.

Connect the lower return spring to the rear brake shoe and check that the handbrake control lever moves freely, then install the lower part of the shoe into the shoe support. Secure the block with a spring and a pin.

Install the front (by location) brake shoe on the shield and secure with a spring and a pin.

Connect the lower return spring to the front brake shoe.

Install the top return spring.

Install the brake drum. If necessary, set the adjusting device once more to the end position so that the brake pads are in contact with the pistons. To do this, press the ratchet lever with a screwdriver. Disconnect the ratchet lever spring, if necessary, and reattach after installation. Depress the brake pedal several times to center the pads and adjust their position.
