Ignition coil

Examination

Check that the center terminal of the ignition coil is receiving full battery voltage.

Disconnect the electrical connector from the coil.

Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance of the ignition coil windings.

Remove the high voltage wires from the spark plugs and use an ohmmeter to check. that terminals 1 and 4 are connected to each other and to the coil winding. Terminals 2 and 3 must also be connected to each other and to the ignition coil. Switch the ohmmeter to the high resistance range and check the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 or 4 and 3. The resistance between them should be infinity.

If the measured resistance is not correct, replace the ignition coil.

Withdrawal

Remove the negative terminal from the battery.

Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition coil (see fig. 5B.1).

Disconnect the high voltage wires from the ignition coil (see fig. 5B.2).

Unscrew the screws and remove the ignition coil (see fig. 5V.3, 5V.4).

Installation

Installation is made in sequence, return to removal.
