Driveshaft rubber boots are very important because they prevent dirt, water, and debris from getting into the constant velocity joints.
Raise the front of the car and secure it on stands. Turn the front wheels to the maximum angle and, while rotating the front wheel, inspect the condition of the outer and inner protective rubber boots, squeezing the protective boots to open the folds.
If the cover is damaged, it must be replaced immediately (see fig. 1.18).
Check the general condition of the outer CV joints by holding the drive shaft and attempting to rotate the wheel. Any noticeable movement in the CV joint indicates wear on the CV joint, wear in the drive shaft splines, or loose drive shaft lock nut. Repeat this control on the inner CV joint, holding the inner CV joint and attempting to rotate the drive shaft.
