P - Parking. This position should only be set when the vehicle is stopped. The drive wheels are blocked in this position and prevent the vehicle from moving. The handbrake must also be applied. Do not set the lever to this position while the vehicle is moving
R - Reverse. This position should only be set with the vehicle stopped and the engine idling.
N - Neutral position. This position should be set when starting the engine and running it at idle.
D - Move forward. Normal driving position. You can move from position D to position L and. vice versa, when the car is moving.
L - Forced downshift. Used on roads with large slopes.
