Unscrew the bolt and nut securing the lower ball joint of the suspension arm to the steering knuckle. When removing the bolt, mark its position so that it can be reinstalled correctly. Tilt the lever down from the suspension.
Pay attention to the installation of the clamps for securing the protective cover. Remove the clamps and slide the protective cover over the drive shaft (see fig. 8.8).
By pulling the hub out of the vehicle, separate the inner part of the shaft with the hinge from the hinge housing. Remove grease from the hinge. Using a lever, remove the pivot retaining ring at the inner end of the drive shaft. Check for location marks on the end of the drive shaft and the hinge. Apply them if necessary. Remove the old protective cover with nylon ring from the shaft (see fig. 8.9).
Clean the drive shaft.
Slide a new protective boot over the shaft and install the nylon ring (see fig. 8.10, 8.11).
Install the joint on the drive shaft. At the same time, align the marks on the shaft and the hinge. Secure the hinge with a new retaining ring (see fig. 8.12). Install the drive shaft with the joint into the joint housing and fill it with grease.
By moving the protective boot along the drive shaft, install the boot on the inner and outer bearing surfaces of the boot. Fasten the cover with clamps (see fig. 8.13).
Connect the lower arm ball joint to the steering knuckle. Reinstall the pinch bolt to its original position and tighten the lock nut to the correct torque. Connect the tie rod ball joint to the steering knuckle Install the wheel and lower the vehicle.
