General information

The gearbox converts the torque transmitted from the engine in magnitude and direction. There are 3 types of manual transmissions installed on cars.

Most cars are equipped with 4 or 5 speed gearboxes and are designated B5 or iB5. On some vehicles with Zetec and Zetec-E engines, 5-speed MTX-75 gearboxes are installed.

The gearbox is mounted transversely in the engine compartment and is bolted to the engine block. The gearbox is lubricated independently of the engine.
