Thermostat replacement

            0

The thermostat is located in the coolant outlet from the head of the block. It controls the passage of coolant through the radiator. The operation of the thermostat speeds up the warming up of the engine after starting.

Removing the thermostat

Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.

Partially drain the liquid from the cooling system.

Disconnect the elastic hoses from the thermostat housing (pic. 2.94).

Remove the fan thermal switch.

Unscrew the cover and take out the thermostat (pic. 2.95).

Checking the operation of the thermostat

Hang the thermostat in a container of water.

Heat the water and check its temperature with a thermometer.

At a temperature of 85°-89°C, the thermostat should open.

At a temperature of 98°-102°C, the thermostat must be fully open (pic. 2.96).

The thermostat cannot be repaired and if it is damaged, it must be replaced with a new one.

Installing a thermostat

The thermostat is installed in reverse order. In this case, it is necessary to use new gaskets and strictly adhere to the recommended tightening torques for the bolts.

Fill the system with coolant, pouring it gradually through the expansion tank. After starting, warm up the engine to normal temperature. The upper coolant hose must be hot.
