The engine that bears the name "Valencia" (pic. 2.1), is an overhead valve with a camshaft placed in the housing and acting on the valves through the pushers and valve levers. The camshaft is driven from the crankshaft by a chain.
The oil pump is located on the side of the engine housing, in the side casing of which there is an oil filter mounting flange. The pump is driven from the crankshaft by means of a helical gear.
The engine is equipped with an electronic ignition system without a distributor.
Engine 1.4i
The engine is placed in front of the car transversely to the direction of travel. It has the factory designation CVH/1-4 (pic. 2.2)
Varieties of this engine, intended for export to various countries, are additionally marked with the symbol F 6 E. The camshaft is driven from the crankshaft using a toothed belt. The belt drive of this drive is located at the front of the engine. The ignition distributor is driven directly by the camshaft, which is located in the block head. The oil pump is located in the front cover of the engine housing and is driven directly by the crankshaft. The water pump is driven from the camshaft by a belt drive. The valves are actuated by hydraulic tappets. Thanks to this, there is no need to adjust the valve clearances.
Fuel injection - single point, electronically controlled. The engine is equipped with a catalyzed exhaust system with a lambda probe.
Engine 1.6i
The engine has the same design as the 1.4i engine. It has the factory designation LJD/LJC.
Diesel engine 1.8
The crankshaft rests on five bearings and, with the help of a toothed belt, drives the camshaft located in the head. Valves actuated directly by the camshaft (pic. 2.3).
The injection pump is driven from the crankshaft by a gear. The generator and water pump are driven by a V-belt from the crankshaft.
The oil pump is located in the front cover that closes the timing drive and is driven directly by the crankshaft.
