Note: The above temperature of 280°C must not be exceeded.
Place the piston in the fixture as shown in fig. 2.77. Install the heated connecting rod in the mounting position relative to the piston (arrow on the bottom of the piston).
Insert the piston pin into the guide and in one motion insert into the piston and connecting rod until it stops. Lubricate the piston pin with engine oil to improve glide.
If you do not have sufficient experience in carrying out such work and if you do not have the above equipment, it is better to entrust the installation of piston pins to connect the piston to the connecting rod to specialists from the maintenance workshop.
An incompletely inserted piston pin could be brought into the correct position by pushing it in cold under pressure. Performing this seemingly simple operation leads to damage to the piston, as pressure is applied to its shirt. Once connected to the connecting rod, the piston must be absolutely free to rotate relative to the connecting rod.
