Loosen through the holes in the brake shield the device for adjusting the clearances of the brake shoes (pic. 6.4).
Loosen the bolts securing the drum to the hub and remove the drum together with the hub by unscrewing the central hub nut.
Take out the guide pads, to do this, turn the tin covers by 90° (pic. 6.5). Remove the springs along with the pins.
Remove the pads from their bottom support.
Remove the lower brake shoe return spring.
Disconnect the pads from the brake cylinder.
Remove the upper shoe return spring and the intermediate handbrake lever.
Remove the locking latch, as well as the adjustment latch and the handbrake balancing lever.
Remove the handbrake cable. Check brake drum wear before installing shoe mechanism. Drums with scratched friction surfaces, as well as with traces of corrosion, must be replaced with new ones. Drums are always replaced in pairs, even if only one of them has defects that require its replacement. Before starting installation, it is useful to familiarize yourself with the contents section 4.2"Rear suspension - Replacing and adjusting the rear wheel bearing clearance".
Mount the brake pads with the adjustment latch and the handbrake balancing lever. Pay attention to the fact that the parts move freely. To do this, lubricate the pivot points with a thin layer of grease.
Connect the handbrake cable to the balance lever.
Lubricate with a thin layer of grease the six places where the pads fit on the brake shield (pic. 6.6).
Install the upper shoe return spring with the intermediate (bursting) hand brake lever.
Install the pads on the brake shield, installing them simultaneously on the lower dispute and insert them correctly into the cutouts of the brake cylinder pistons.
Install the lower brake shoe weight.
Install guide shoe pins and springs. Install tin lids.
Install the shoe clearance adjuster in such a way that the shoes are as little apart as possible (towards the brake drum). This setting will make it easier to install the drum.
Install the hub drum and secure it to the hub flange. Tighten the center hub nut.
Press the brake pedal hard several times to activate the automatic brake shoe-to-drum clearance adjustment mechanism.
