Measuring the thickness of the brake pads of the front disc brakes

            0

Front disc brake pads wear faster than rear brake pads. Check the thickness of the brake pads every 15,000 km or once a year. On all Fiesta models, the minimum allowable brake pad thickness, including the metal base of the pad, is 6 mm. Be sure to replace all pads on the same vehicle axle, even if only one pad is worn. If the brake pads are to be reinstalled, they must be marked before removal.

SEQUENCE OF WORK

1. Check the thickness of the brake pads after removing the wheels.

2. With a ruler attached to the brake shoe, measure its thickness.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Checking the brake pedal travel

The free travel of the brake pedal should be no more than 1/3 of the full travel of the pedal. If the pedal moves further (check by hand), immediately check the disc brakes - their pads may have worn out to a minimum thickness. Too much brake pedal travel can be caused by stuck brake pads or a rusted brake caliper.

Checking the pedal stroke should not replace checking the thickness of the brake pads, since the caliper piston during braking moves the pads to such a distance that when the brake pedal is released, the pads are always at the same distance from the brake disc. Therefore, as long as the brake pads are not completely worn out, the brake pedal travel remains almost the same. If the pedal travel is reduced, there may be air in the system that needs to be removed. Find the cause of its penetration into the hydraulic system.
