The correct alignment of the front wheels is a decisive factor in the reliable and correct behavior of the car on a flat surface and in corners. Even a small impact on the curb can break the geometry of the front wheel suspension. Worn ball joints and rubber mounts or incompetent repairs also have a negative effect on the behavior of the car. Optical chassis monitoring is an integral part of the maintenance of car workshops and service centers that have a special measuring stand. Of course, while driving, you can determine the broken geometry of the front wheels yourself. To check the wheel alignment while driving, first make sure that both front wheels are fitted with tires of the same type, their tread depth is the same, and the tire pressure is normal. If all these conditions are met, please note the following.
1. Make sure that the spokes of the steering wheel are symmetrical when driving in a straight line. The steering wheel, turned to any angle in a straight line, indicates an incorrect adjustment of the wheel alignment angles.
2. Make sure the front wheels are symmetrical with the steering wheel straight ahead
3. Check if the steering wheel pulls to the side on a flat, horizontal road and with the steering wheel released.
4. Check if the steering wheel returns to its original position after turning.
5. Check up uniformity of wear of tires of forward wheels. When driving at high speeds and especially when cornering on both front wheels, the outer sides of the tires show more signs of wear than the inner ones.
