Warning lamps for insufficient oil pressure, airbags and ABS
The warning lamps for insufficient oil pressure, airbags and ABS light up when the ignition is switched on and go out after a short time. If they do not light up or flash while driving, then there is a malfunction in the systems. In this case, you must immediately contact the service center.
Incorrect information in the instrument cluster
Sometimes control devices do not correctly inform the driver about the state of the systems they control, in these cases either the corresponding sensor and wire are damaged, or faulty sensors transmit false information. If you notice that many indicators do not work correctly at the same time, the cause may be voltage deviations in the car's on-board network, for example, when the voltage regulator is faulty. If this is the case, you must immediately determine the cause of the malfunctioning devices.
Visual check before driving

Before you start driving, carefully visually check the operation of the instruments in the instrument cluster (the number of indicators depends on the equipment of the Fiesta) (pic. 15.30).
1. Make sure the clock is working.
2. When the ignition is switched on, the following control lamps should light up for a few seconds: battery charging, emergency oil pressure drop, parking brake (when applying the parking brake), airbags and ABS. In a Fiesta with a diesel engine, the engine preheat indicator lamp lights up for a few seconds before starting the engine.
3. The fuel gauge should function in the same way as when the ignition is off.
4. Don't forget to check the switches for the hazard warning lights, rear window defroster, fog lights (if they are installed) and fog lights. Check if the corresponding indicator lamps are working.
5. Check up illumination of the panel of devices and a driver's seat.
6. Move the left combination switch lever and check the turn signal and high beam warning lamps.
7. Be convinced that control lamps of storage battery charging and insufficient pressure of oil go out after engine start-up. Does the airbag and ABS warning light go out? Does the preheat indicator lamp go out after starting the diesel engine?
PRACTICAL ADVICE
Pilot lamps not lit
Control lamp for emergency oil pressure drop.
Turn on the ignition, disconnect the wire from the oil pressure sensor and connect it to «weight». If the control lamp lights up, then the oil pressure sensor is faulty - it must be replaced. If the control lamp does not burn yet, consistently check up wires, a conductive film of a combination of devices and a lamp. The pressure sensor of a gasoline engine is located on the cylinder block next to the oil filter flange, in a diesel engine it is located in the lower front of the engine next to the fuel filter.

The fuel gauge or sensor in the fuel tank is faulty, possibly as a result of a float jamming or a break in the voltage supply wire. The fuel reserve indicator can only search for a limited number of faults. To access the fuel level sensor, remove the upholstery under the rear seat, disconnect the connector and use a multi-purpose gauge to check the wires and the sensor (pic. 15.31).
Other control lamps.
First of all, check the fuses that protect the electrical circuits of the control lamps, then the condition of the contacts of the wire connectors, wires and sensor elements. To do this, use a universal measuring device. If you find a malfunction, most sensors can be replaced by yourself. But do not rely too much on the electrical circuit of the instrument cluster, it is better to consult a service center.
