SEQUENCE OF WORK
1. Close all doors and windows.
2. Clean wheel arches, caps and sills. You can wash off the remaining dirt when washing.
3. Rinse the bottom with a jet of steam or water. In winter, be sure to clean off the dirt before washing your car. It is recommended to lift the vehicle once or twice a year and inspect the condition of the underbody protective coating.
Pic. 3.5. Using a sponge to remove dirt from hard-to-reach places when washing wheel rims
4. The steel rims of the front wheels need to be cleaned more frequently, as a large amount of wear residue from the brake pads formed during braking accumulates there. Clean wheel rims with special cleaning agents. Be sure to pay attention to the instruction manual for these tools. After cleaning, rinse the rims with a strong water jet. Discs will last longer if dirt from hard-to-reach places is removed with a sponge before washing (pic. 3.5). First remove stubborn dirt with a small sponge, then wash the discs with high pressure water.
5. Light alloy wheels should be cleaned regularly with water and detergent. Be very careful when doing this, as aluminum rims are very susceptible to alkaline cleaners.
To clean the rim, you must first remove the protective cap. Cleaning is best done with a cold detergent, and in most cases car shampoo will suffice.
6. Toothbrushes will make cleaning discs of complex shape easier. It would also be appropriate to use protective drugs. Dust from brake pads and dirt will not penetrate through the layer of protective preparation.
Do not coat brake discs and brake pads with a protective preparation.
Preliminary softening of road dirt
7. Pre-wash the vehicle with a low pressure water jet. On the high pressure washer, set the dial to «Rinsing».
Pic. 3.6. Using a wash sponge with plenty of water
8. Use a hose with a brush, sponge or mitt to always wash large surfaces, starting from the roof and moving down (pic. 3.6).
Always apply a generous amount of water to the vehicle surface with a sponge.
9. Apply the cleaning foam in a circular motion with light pressure. Let the foam act on the surface for a short time.
Pic. 3.7. Using the brush attachment for the most favorable car wash. Special washing additives, fed through the brush, dissolve old dirt
10. Wash off dirt with a brush and water from a hose (pic. 3.7). To wash yourself, select a program «Rinsing».
11. Wash the wheels last with a brush and hose.
12. After washing, immediately wipe the car with suede. Air-dried water droplets leave a gray limescale residue that can damage the paintwork.
Pic. 3.8. Use of special suede for wiping the paint surface. It will help you dry your car quickly and efficiently. To dry the paint surface, use special suede - it does not leave scratches on the paint surface
13. Rinse the suede well in clean water before use. Then wring out, lay on a large surface and slowly pull towards you (pic. 3.8).
14. After each such operation, rinse the suede cloth well and wring it out. Wipe hard-to-reach corners with a cotton rag or an old suede cloth, save a new one - the remaining dirt will ruin it.
Take care of the cleanliness of the glasses
15. At the end of the wash, the line reaches the outer sides of the window panes. When cleaning the outside of the windows, proceed in the same way as when cleaning the inside. Check the windshield for stone marks, scratches and cracks.
16. Wipe the wiper blades with a sponge or dry suede. Check brush rubber bands for damage and elasticity, replace rough rubber bands.
17. After washing, check the paint surface, headlight glass and front bumper for old dirt: insect residues, bird droppings, pollen residues and asphalt splashes are aggressive and must be removed with a special solvent.
18. Asphalt spatter remover must not be used on fresh or freshly repaired paint surfaces: the solvents contained in the asphalt remover may damage the paint surface.
PRACTICAL ADVICE
headlight wash
Pic. 3.9. Scheme of deflection and absorption of the light flux by dirt particles on the Hella headlight glass: a - deflection and absorption of light rays by dirt particles; b - clean headlights (maximum visibility, no glare); c - dirty headlights (reduced visibility, high glare)
You should wash your headlights much more often than the Fiesta itself. Dirt particles on the glass can shield and absorb light rays, resulting in reduced illuminating distance and reduced headlamp brightness. Even after half an hour of driving on a wet road, the headlights of your Fiesta can be up to 60% dirty. Accordingly, the lighting power is reduced - a real danger to you and other road users. The scheme of deflection and absorption of the light flux by dirt particles is shown in fig. 3.9.
