Purchase of spare parts

            0

All spare parts must be purchased before starting repair work. Make a list of spare parts needed for repairs in a timely manner. Do not forget to add to the list not only the parts that need to be replaced, but also related components (gaskets, circlips, radial seals, self-locking nuts, grease, liquid sealant, etc.). To be on the safe side, before purchasing parts, consult a specialist who knows most of the work steps and can help you make a list of the required materials needed for repairs. If you can't accurately estimate the amount of repair work, schedule your work so that you have time for an unscheduled visit to a specialty store. Never assume that the service center always has all the necessary parts and parts in stock, so plan the time to purchase the necessary parts as well.

Selection of parts based on identification code

Pic. 2.1. Identification plate

Since the release, many parts in the Ford Fiesta have been upgraded. Therefore, often the year of manufacture determines which spare part is suitable. You will make it easier for yourself and the seller if you present the technical passport for your car or write down the data of the identification plate on a piece of paper. Based on the information provided, the seller will easily determine the required part. But, if you want to be sure, come to the store with the old part removed from the car.

Vehicle type plate. It is located in the Fiesta on the upper transverse beam in front under the hood. It contains data on the type and weight of the vehicle, identification number, as well as designations of built-in units.

Vehicle identification number. It is additionally stamped on the plate on the right side of the instrument panel and on the floor. The plate on the instrument panel contains additional information about the airbag system.

Engine number. The letter and numeric code is stamped on the engine block:

– on the Endura-E engine on the front side near the gearbox flange;

– on the Zetec-SE engine in front on the right under the gearbox flange;

- on the Endura-DE engine, front left near the gearbox.

Selection of original parts or parts from other manufacturers

It is advisable to purchase all spare parts and parts that are necessary for the repair of a Fiesta car from a Ford dealer. But this is not a prerequisite. The spare parts trade offers a wide range of parts, among them there are also parts from those manufacturers that supply them to Ford factories for installation on manufactured cars. So compare prices - as long as the quality of the parts is truly comparable. Definitely avoid purchasing unmarked parts as the savings are negligible and cannot be compared to the quality of original parts. Purchase replacement parts only from original Ford suppliers.

Buying cheap parts does not automatically guarantee a price advantage

In the case of purchasing spare parts on which your safety depends, saving almost always leads to a bad result: buy brake pads and discs, drive shafts, wheel bearings and joints from the first suppliers or only original ones. Most cheap products are of dubious quality. For example, what benefit will you get from cheap brake discs from Eastern Europe or Asia if, after installing them on a car, an imbalance appears that leads to subsequent costly repairs. Ford confirms the combination of brake pads with the characteristics of the material of the brake discs or brake drums. For this in «General Permit to Operate» (AVE) has a code number. If your car is inspected by experts after a serious accident and it turns out that the brake pads on all wheels are from different manufacturers, then the insurance company may refuse to compensate you for damages when settling the damage. Your safety and the safety of other road users should be worth the small extra cost of buying genuine parts over cheap non-original parts.

Purchasing used parts

In some cases, to save money, it makes sense to purchase parts that were in use. Used Ford parts are of the same quality as new parts, but much cheaper and have the same warranty. It also makes sense to purchase used closed building blocks and elements. For example, Bosch sells remanufactured electronic components through its network of service centers. In many cases, purchasing parts from reputable car recycling companies is a good alternative - if you want to do repairs especially cheaply and you are rather indifferent to the appearance of the car. This primarily applies to body parts such as doors, bumpers and hood. Wear parts can only be replaced with used ones if the latter are significantly better than those on your car. In this case, you often have to remove the necessary part from the old car yourself. In any case, ask the price: a used part should cost a maximum of half the price of a new one, and if the part wears out, then its cost should not exceed a quarter of the price of a new one.

Deciding to replace part of the engine or the entire engine

With wear or malfunctions in the crank mechanism, pistons and oil pan, the purchase of an engine part is washed away. It is an economical alternative, since the cylinder head and additional units from the old engine are used for installation. Purchasing a replacement engine assembly makes sense only with a well-preserved car. It must be borne in mind that there are a number of companies specializing in complex and partial repairs of engines and guaranteeing that repairs are carried out in accordance with quality standards.
