Oil pressure in the lubrication system

            0

In order for the oil film to adhere to the friction surfaces under high loads, oil must always be supplied under sufficient pressure to the lubrication points. But if the friction pair is under too high pressure when the oil is too cold and viscous, the engine can be seriously damaged. This is prevented by a bypass valve that opens and directs oil to the oil pump suction port. In technically sound Fiesta engines, the oil reaches the lubrication points at an average engine speed at a pressure of approximately 1.5–2.8 bar (oil temperature approx. 80–100°C, all-weather oil SAE 10W-30). At idle, an oil pressure of 0.6–1 bar is sufficient. The emergency oil pressure drop indicator lamp installed in the instrument cluster does not give accurate oil pressure values, it only lights up at a pressure of 0.3–0.5 bar. More accurate information will be given by an oil pressure gauge, which is relatively easy to install.

Oil pressure warning lamp

The emergency oil pressure drop warning lamp lights up when there is no longer sufficient oil supply to all engine components and components. For example, this may already be the case when you drive your Fiesta with too low an oil level quickly around a corner. The resulting centrifugal forces move the oil to the outside of the oil pan and the oil pump draws air from the oil pan instead of oil. The oil pressure drops sharply, which can cause serious engine damage. Also, if after a fast drive on a freeway or a pass, the warning light flashes at idle, this is a clear sign that the oil pressure is no longer enough. And if, with a slight increase in the crankshaft speed, the control lamp goes out, then do not worry - a technically sound engine will cool down while driving.

If the oil pressure warning light stays on

1. Stop the vehicle immediately and turn off the engine.

2. Check the oil level.

3. If there is no oil, add it as soon as possible, or drive carefully to the nearest gas station and add oil. Make sure the lamp is off.

4. If this does not happen, have the vehicle towed to the nearest workshop and have it diagnosed. This is the only way to avoid serious engine damage.
