SEQUENCE OF WORK
1. Remove the drive shaft from the vehicle.
2. Remove the clamps from the damaged or leaking CV joint. Move the damaged protective cover to the middle of the drive shaft.
3. Remove excess grease from the constant velocity joint.
4. Remove a lock ring of fastening of the hinge. If necessary, use special pliers to remove the retaining rings. Remove the outer constant velocity joint from the drive shaft, in extreme cases, use a hammer.
5. Install a new protective boot on the drive shaft.
6. If the inner joint boot is damaged, loosen the clamps and remove the boot from the drive shaft.
7. Before installing a new protective boot, fill the cleaned ball joint with new grease, which is included in the repair kit.
8. Press the drive shaft into the ball joint until the retaining ring snaps into place.
9. Carefully slide the new protective boot over the CV joint and place it on the seats, which must be perfectly clean.
10. Install the new mounting collars from the repair kit and hand tighten them so that the retainer is installed in the nearest hole.
11. When tightening the clamps, mainly from the side of the wheel hub, make sure that the protruding free part of the clamp tension band is pressed against the shaft as much as possible. Otherwise, when it rotates, the protruding part of the clamp tension band may come into contact with surrounding parts, which will lead to loosening of the clamp and its depressurization.
PRACTICAL ADVICE
Lubrication distribution in the protective cover of the constant velocity joint
Before finally tightening the protective boot clamps, spread the new grease evenly under the boot. To do this, squeeze the bellows and at the same time carefully turn the hinge - the lubricant will be evenly distributed in the boot and the hinge. Then use a screwdriver to lift the bottom edge of the protective case and squeeze it slightly to remove excess air from under the case. Make sure that the cover is installed on the wheel drive shaft without transverse folds.
