External lighting equipment

Focus external lighting equipment includes main and fog lights, tail and brake lights, reversing lights, rear fog lights, and turn signal and license plate lights. All other light sources are described in chapter «Salon».

Majority «lamps» outdoor lighting equipment consists of a light source, a reflector and a diffuser. Ford uses halogen bulbs in the Focus as the light source for the headlights and fog lights. The Focus main headlights are equipped with a complex profiled reflector, the inner surface of which has a thin layer of sprayed aluminum. It realizes high light output. Reflectors reflect and focus the light and increase the intensity of the light - for example, when the main beam is on, the entire reflector transforms the light output of a halogen lamp by almost a thousand times. In contrast, with weaker passing beams, only the upper half of the reflector is used.

Synthetic diffusers with optimized weight

Legislation defines a special light distribution with an asymmetric chiaroscuro border as dipped beam. With this solution, the maximum light is concentrated on the right side of the road. Specially made diffusers focus uniform reflected light in the desired direction by cylindrical lenses, prisms and parallel surfaces. The diffusers in the Focus are made of synthetic material. Synthetic materials are easier to profile than glass and are also about 70% lighter.

In wet weather with improperly adjusted headlights, you dazzle yourself and, in addition, oncoming traffic. Therefore, check the headlights regularly - for example, free of charge during the autumn free promotions of ADAC, TUV and DEKRA. In addition, you should check your Focus's lighting equipment yourself before every night ride. If you find that the headlight is not working, repair the problem immediately.

Makes sense - a set of spare lamps on board

The law prescribes that all external lighting equipment must always be in good condition. Therefore, prudent drivers carry a set of spare lamps. Only 12V lamps are installed in the Focus:
