Timely purchase of spare parts

            0

Spare parts should be available to you no later than the start of work. Make a list of all the parts you need for the job in a timely manner. At the same time, take into account in the list not only the parts themselves, but also accessories (gaskets, circlips, radial seals, self-locking nuts, grease, liquid sealant, etc.), that belong to the periphery of the repair. For the sake of reliability, ask a specialist in the parts warehouse - he knows most of the work processes, and he will make you the right repair kit. If you can't accurately estimate the amount of work ahead of time, set the date so that you have time for an unscheduled visit to the accessory store and Ford contract salesperson. But never assume that one contract workshop has all the parts in stock, also consider the time of the order.

Depending on the number code - «correct» spare parts

During the production process, some details in the Ford Focus have changed. Therefore, the year of manufacture is often decisive for which parts are needed. You will facilitate the work of yourself and the seller if you present the vehicle registration certificate or write down the data on the sheet from the vehicle type description plate. An experienced parts dealer can easily recognize the right part by the number code. If you want to be completely accurate, put a cleaned old part on the counter for the seller.

Vehicle type plate: located in the Focus on the upper cross member in front under the hood. It contains information about the type of vehicle, its weight, identification number, as well as the designations of the installed units.

Vehicle Identification Number: This is additionally visible from the outside on a plate on the left above the dashboard and is embossed under the lining in the underbody. The label provides additional information about the airbag system.

Engine Number: An alphanumeric code stamped on the engine block. With Zetec-SE front right under engine/gearbox flange. With Zetec-E next to the gearbox flange on the side of the engine block. With Endura-DI engines on the left above the injection pump.

Safety Priority - Compare Genuine Parts and Parts from Other Vehicles

Get all the parts you need to repair your Focus at the Ford store. But you don't have to buy only there. There is also a wide range of accessories available at hardware stores, including OEM parts supplied by Ford for factory fitment. Compare prices - as long as service, quality and deliverability are truly comparable. Never take risks with nameless products. The amounts saved are often small and largely out of proportion to the lack of security. You will be absolutely sure in the sense of safety only with spare parts at the level of quality of the factory equipment.

Obviously: cheap is unprofitable

When it comes to spare parts on which safety depends, savings are not worth it: brake linings, brake discs, wheel bearings, drive shafts and joints should always be purchased in a quality that would be equal to the quality of factory-fitted parts or original parts with an ABE test number. Most cheap products do not meet the minimum quality level required by the manufacturer. This inevitably involves a risk to your safety and the safety of other road users. What, for example, do you benefit from cheaper brake discs with an obscure origin that perform unbalanced and lead to costly repairs or - even worse - simply burn out under hard full braking? Ford in the Focus harmonizes the consistency of the friction linings with the quality of the material of the brake discs. Their code (e) number (A) you will find in «General license to operate a vehicle» (AVE). If your Focus is inspected after a serious accident and an expert finds unauthorized parts of the brake system, then your car's insurance may be canceled. Look carefully at savings - your safety and the safety of other people should cost more to you.

Exchange parts - a profitable alternative

«Second hand» justified by the purchase of a number of spare parts. Exchange parts from Ford are of the same quality as new parts, but are noticeably cheaper and come with the same warranty. Hardware stores offer numerous trade-in parts. Bosch sells remanufactured electrical components, for example, in Europe through its authorized workshops. But in many cases, car recyclers are often a good option if you want to make repairs especially inexpensive and do not attach great importance to appearance. This applies to body parts such as doors, bumpers and hoods. But used parts are worth it only if they are clearly superior in quality to those that are on the car. Sometimes you have to dismantle the spare part you need on the spot yourself. Just in case, ask about the price: a used part should cost no more than half the cost of a corresponding new part. Part with signs of wear - no more than a quarter of the cost of a new part.

Original parts/parts from other cars:
  • Starter
  • Engine gaskets
  • Oil filter
  • Ignition wires
  • Generator
  • Spark plug
  • Incandescent lamps
  • Spark plug connectors
  • headlights
  • articulated shafts
  • V-belt
  • Master brake cylinder
  • shock absorbers
  • brake hoses
  • Wheel brake cylinder
  • Brake discs
  • brake pipes
  • Body parts
  • varnish
  • Clutch

Exchange details:
  • Starter
  • Generator
  • Disc brake calipers
  • Clutch pressure plate
  • Driven clutch disc
  • Flywheel
  • Transmission
  • Drive shafts
  • Cylinder block with pistons
  • Crankshaft with bearings
  • Engine sections
  • cylinder head

Do the math with pencil in hand - engine sections or swap engine?

With major damage to the crank mechanism, pistons and crankcase, the purchase of engine sections is justified. This is an economical alternative, since during installation you can take all the components of the old engine. It makes sense to exchange the entire engine assembly only with a fairly new and well-preserved car. Ask your Ford workshop. Maybe your Ford dealer even has a suitable «treasure» with a restored value, left after an accident with total damage to the car. In addition, there are a number of companies that specialize in the repair of the entire engine or its sections and guarantee repairs in accordance with the Quality Directives. A list of such companies can be obtained from the Association of Automobile Repairers, Goihaer StraBc 17, 40980 Ralingen, tel. 02102/447222.
