If the engine has lost a large amount of coolant during a trip, in no case top up with cold water: a hot engine will experience a cold shock, in which, in extreme cases, even the engine block may burst or the cylinder head may be deformed.
In the first case, the engine will prematurely go to scrap, otherwise the cylinder head gasket will no longer provide tightness, the coolant will flow out and mix with engine oil into an emulsion incapable of lubrication. So give your Focus plenty of time for its engine to cool down before topping up with water. In any case, let a specialist find out the cause of the loss of coolant.
