Checking the transmission oil level

            0

Modern gear oils are free to last the life of the transmission, which is why all Focus manual transmissions are stocked with a long life oil from the factory. As long as you don't see big puddles of gear oil under your Focus, calmly forget about the service link. However: a slight oil mist at the gearbox ventilation is completely normal. But if you find large drops there, blow the ventilation with compressed air and check the filling volume, add oil if necessary. «Pamper» your Focus by regular checks in the workshop, the men in blue will do everything for you.

Proper gear oil is essential for performance and durability

Focus transmissions use synthetic multipurpose oils. In the event that you must add oil after a repair, such as after replacing a drive shaft, be sure to stick to the same quality oil. The first address is your Focus dealer who has the appropriate oils in stock. Without professional equipment, pouring viscous gear oil requires a lot of patience from the amateur: workshops work with booster pumps that pour oil directly into the gearbox from 50-liter kegs. Although you can pour small quantities with a grease gun with a syringe and extension hose. In the iB5 gearbox, the oil level should be approximately 10-15 mm below the edge of the fill hole, the correct measure for the MTX-75 gearbox is at least 5 mm below the fill hole. In automatic transmissions there is no room for interpretation: you check the oil level with the engine running with a dipstick at the height of the front wall under the hood (on the left in the direction of travel).
