Withdrawal


WARNING: To eliminate the risk of accidental deployment, the backup power to the airbag control module must be discharged. Wait at least one minute after disconnecting the wire (ov) battery ground prior to any repair or adjustment to the assist restraint system (SRS) or any element (ov), adjacent to the SRS sensors. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury.


WARNING: Always wear safety goggles when working on a vehicle equipped with airbags and when working on the airbag module. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury.


WARNING: To minimize the possibility of premature deployment of the airbag, do not use radio key code savers when operating the secondary restraint system. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.


WARNING: To minimize the risk of injury if an air bag deploys prematurely, always carry a charged air bag module with the air bag and bezel facing away from your torso. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.


WARNING: To minimize the possibility of premature deployment of airbags, charged airbag modules should only be installed on grounded workbenches and with the bezel facing up. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury.


WARNING: Never touch the tester probes to the electrical connectors of the airbag modules or any other element of the auxiliary restraint system. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.


WARNING: Painting the decorative cover on the driver's airbag module or instrument panel may damage the decorative cover and the airbags. Under no circumstances should you attempt to paint discolored or damaged decorative covers on airbag modules or the instrument panel. Install a new item. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.



1. Disconnect ground wire from battery. Refer to Section 414-01 for more information.

2. Remove the glove compartment.
  • Detach the damper from the glove box.



3. Remove the ventilation duct.
  • Disconnect the clamp.



4. Disconnect the demist system tube from the heater housing.



5. Turn out bolts of fastening of a decorative cover of the module of an airbag of the passenger.




6. Disconnect the decorative cover of the passenger airbag module from the instrument panel.
  • Using the special tool, carefully release the clips, starting at the front outer edge.



7. Remove the decorative cover of the passenger airbag module.
  • 1. Raise the outer edge.
  • 2. Lift the cover by moving it towards the windshield to release the clips.



8. Disconnect the passenger airbag module and reinforcement bracket from the instrument panel.

NOTE: You may need pointed pliers to release the tabs on the plug connector.


Remove the passenger airbag module.
  • Disconnect plug connectors.

WARNING: If a new passenger airbag module is installed after the passenger air bag has been deployed, the instrument panel should be inspected for damage and if any damage is found, install a new instrument panel. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.


Inspect the instrument panel for damage in the indicated areas.



11. If necessary, remove the instrument panel. Refer to Section 501-12 for more information.


Installation


WARNING: Always wear safety goggles when working on a vehicle equipped with an airbag and when working on an airbag module. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.


WARNING: To minimize the possibility of injury in the event of premature deployment, always carry "charged" airbag by pointing the airbag and trim cover away from your torso. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.


WARNING: To minimize the possibility of premature airbag deployment, charged airbag modules should only be installed on grounded workbenches and with the bezel facing up. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury.


WARNING: Never touch the tester probes to the electrical connectors of the airbag modules or any other element of the auxiliary restraint system. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.


WARNING: Painting the decorative cover on the driver's airbag module or instrument panel may damage the decorative cover and the airbags. 1. Install a new instrument panel if necessary. Refer to Section 501-12 for more information.

2. If the original passenger airbag is to be installed, loosen the passenger airbag module movable bracket nuts.



3. Install the passenger airbag module.
  • Connect the plug connectors.



4. Connect the passenger airbag module and reinforcement bracket to the instrument panel.

NOTE: Feed the trim cover brackets down through the passenger airbag module and the movable bracket.


Install the decorative cover of the passenger airbag module.

NOTE: Do not fully tighten the passenger air bag module decorative cover bolts at this stage.


Install the passenger airbag module decorative cover bolts.



7.
WARNING: Make sure that all the fastening clips of the passenger airbag module decorative cover are properly engaged and that the decorative cover is flush with the instrument panel.


Tighten the passenger airbag module movable bracket bolts.



8. Tighten bolts of fastening of a decorative cover of the module of an airbag of the passenger.



9. Connect the anti-fog pipe to the heater body.



10. Install ventilation piping.
  • Connect clamp.



11. Install the glove compartment.
  • Connect the damper to the glove compartment.



12. Connect ground wire to battery. Refer to Section 414-01 for more information.
