Front seat back — removal and installation

Withdrawal

All cars

1. Raise the seat to its maximum height.

2. Remove the front seat cushion. For more information, refer to the Front Seat Cushion chapter available in this section.

NOTE: During removal, the plastic mounting clip may break. Always install a new clip to ensure that the finish is not loose.

Remove the outer seat trim panel.

• 1. Disconnect and discard the front mount clip.
• 2. Detach the rear locking tab.

All cars

4. Remove the outer seat trim panel.

• 1. Using a suitable screwdriver, disconnect the rear mounting clip.
• 2. Raise the outer seat trim panel.

Vehicles manufactured before 08/2001

5. Disconnect the side airbag module electrical connector from the back of the seat (in the presence of)

• 1. Using a suitable screwdriver, press the locking tab.
• 2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
• 3. Disconnect the mounting clip.

Vehicles manufactured since 08/2001

6. Disconnect the side airbag module electrical connector from the back of the seat (in the presence of)

• 1. Using a suitable screwdriver, press the locking tab.
• 2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
• 3. Disconnect the mounting clip.

All cars

7. Disconnect the side airbag module wiring harness from the seat frame (in the presence of).

• Disconnect the mounting clips.

Vehicles manufactured before 08/2001


8. Disconnect the seat back heater mat electrical connector from the back of the seat (in the presence of).

• 1. Using a suitable screwdriver, press the locking tab.
• 2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
• 3. Disconnect the mounting clip.

9. Disconnect the seat back heater mat electrical connector from the back of the seat (in the presence of).

• 1. Using a suitable screwdriver, press the locking tab.
• 2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
• 3. Disconnect the mounting clip.

All cars

NOTE: On vehicles with heated front seats, the seat back heater mat wiring harness runs along the side airbag module wiring harness.

Disconnect the seat back heater mat wiring harness from the seat frame (in the presence of).

• Disconnect the mounting clips.

11. Remove the buckle and seat belt tensioner.

CAUTION: To prevent damage to the seatback recline knob, apply even pressure to opposite sides of the knob.

Remove the seat back tilt adjustment knob.

NOTE: During removal, the plastic mounting clip may break. Always install a new clip to ensure that the finish is not loose.

Remove the clip stud securing the interior seat trim panel and remove the trim panel.

NOTE: 4-door option shown, 5-door option and "station wagon".

Remove the front seat back.

• 1. Turn out nuts of fastening.
• 2. Move the seat back to the side to remove it from the seat base frame.

Installation

1. To install, follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
