Master brake cylinder — removal and installation (diesel)

Withdrawal


All cars

1.
WARNING: If brake fluid comes into contact with the paintwork, the affected area must be washed immediately with cold water.


Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.

2. Disconnect the plug connector on the filler cap.
  • 1.Pull back the tongue.
  • 2.Press on the clips.
  • 3.Disconnect the plug connector.

CAUTION: Keep the filler cap free of dirt.


Remove the filler cap of the hydraulic brake reservoir.



4. Loosen wheel nuts.

5. Raise and support the vehicle. See Section 100-02 for more information.

6. Remove the front wheels.

7. Release the bleed nipple.
  • 1.Remove the dust cover.
  • 2.Release the bleed nipple.

NOTE: Perform this procedure on both front brake lines.



Remove the brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir.
  • 1. Connect the bleed tube to the bleed nipple and place it in a suitable container.
  • 2. Press the brake pedal until the release of brake fluid stops.
  • 3.Tighten the bleed nipple.



9. Lower the car.

Excluding vehicles with diesel engines

10. Remove the carbon filter cleaning solenoid valve (EVAP). See Section 303-13 for more information.

Vehicles with diesel engines

11. Remove the fuel filter. See Section 303-13 for more information.

All cars

12. Disconnect the plug connector of the wiring harness.



13. Disconnect the wiring harness bracket.



14. Disconnect pipelines of vapors of fuel from a bulkhead of a body.




15. Disconnect the pipeline from the bulkhead of the body under the vacuum brake booster.



16. Disconnect the brake fluid supply line.



17. Disconnect the brake fluid supply line from the bulkhead.

CAUTION: Plug brake lines to prevent leakage of brake fluid and ingress of dirt.



Disconnect the brake lines.



Vehicles with anti-lock brakes

CAUTION: Plug brake lines to prevent leakage of brake fluid and ingress of dirt.


Disconnect the brake lines.



Vehicles with a course stability function

20. Disconnect the plug connector of the pressure sensors.



All cars


21. Remove the wiring harness bracket nut.

CAUTION: Before removing the master cylinder, make sure that vacuum is released from the brake booster. This can be done by removing the vacuum line from the brake booster.


Remove the master cylinder.



Installation


All cars

CAUTION: Before installing the master cylinder, make sure that the vacuum seal is present and that the contact surfaces are clean.


NOTE: After installation, bleed the brake system. See Section 206-00 for more information.


When installing, follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
