General equipment: Gearbox jack.

Withdrawal


All cars

1. Center the steering wheel. Remove the ignition key and lock the steering in this position.



Vehicles manufactured up to 12.1998

2. Disconnect a shaft of a steering column from the steering mechanism.
  • 1. Loosen the top bolt.
  • 2. Remove the bottom bolt.
  • 3.Move the sleeve up.



Vehicles manufactured since 12.1998


3. Disconnect the steering column shaft from the steering mechanism.
  • 1. Remove the bolt.
  • 2. Disconnect the steering gear shaft from the steering column.



All cars

4. Remove the nuts securing the tie rod end (wheel removed for clarity).

CAUTION: When disconnecting the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles, they must be wrapped with a cloth to prevent damage to the ball joint seals.


Using the special tool, disconnect the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles.



6. Disconnect the anti-roll bar link arms from the strut spring assemblies.




Diesel vehicles

7. Remove engine protection.

All cars

NOTE: Diesel option shown, other options are similar.


Remove the central bolt securing the support cushion to the gearbox in the block with the drive axle.

NOTE: Right hand drive option shown, left hand drive variant is similar.


Remove the steering heat shield. Turn out two bolts.

NOTE: Left hand drive shown, right hand drive similar.



Disconnect the hose clamp. Remove the screw.

NOTE: Right hand drive option shown, left hand drive variant is similar.


Disconnect the power steering hoses from the steering gear.
  • 1. Remove the bolt.
  • 2.Turn the clamping bar.
  • Let the liquid drain into a suitable container.



12. Support the cross member with a suitable transmission jack.

13. Turn out six bolts of a crossbar (support not shown).



14. Lower the crossbar.




15. Remove the steering column shaft with clutch and floor seal.
  • 1.Disconnect the floor seal from the steering box. Release the clamps.
  • 2. Remove the bolt.

Remove the steering gear.



Installation


All cars

1.
NOTE: Check O-rings for wear, cuts or cracks.


Install new O-rings if necessary.

CAUTION: Make sure the delivery valve is properly installed in the valve block.


Install the steering gear.

NOTE: Visually inspect the floor seal prior to installation. Make sure that the sealing surface of the floor seal is clean and free from deformation. The foam section of the floor seal must be (25-30) mm. If the value is less than prescribed, install a new floor seal.


NOTE: Make sure the floor seal is properly positioned on the steering box.


Install the steering column shaft with clutch and floor seal.



4. Using special tools, align the position of the cross member.
  • 1.Insert the guide pins into the alignment holes of the cross member.
  • 2.Insert the locking bars into the grooves and tighten the guide pin bushings.
  • 3. Raise the cross member by inserting the guide pins into the chassis alignment holes.



5. Install the cross member bolts.



6. Remove the jack.

7. Remove the subframe alignment pins.

8. Install the power steering hoses. Install the hoses and rotate the clamping bar.



9. Install the hose support clamp.



10. Install the steering heat shield.

Install the support pad center bolt.



Diesel vehicles

12. Install motor protection.

All cars

13. Connect the anti-roll bar link arms to the spring strut assemblies.



14. Establish tips of steering draughts.



15.
WARNING: Before lowering the vehicle, make sure the steering is in the "straight ahead".


Lower the car.

Vehicles manufactured up to 12.1998

WARNING: Install a new clamp bolt. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.


Connect the steering column shaft to the steering gear shaft.



Vehicles manufactured since 12.1998

WARNING: Install a new clamp bolt. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.


Connect the steering column shaft to the steering gear shaft.



All cars

18. Fill in a working liquid in system of the amplifier of a steering. For more information, refer to the Pump/Steering Gear Overhaul Startup Procedure chapter found in this section.

19. Check up a convergence of wheels. See Section 204-00 for more information.
