Cleaning the air distribution system

General equipment: Spray gun with hose.

WARNING: Avoid contact with eyes and skin; use gloves and respiratory protection. These steps should be performed in a well ventilated room. Keep all doors and windows of the vehicle open while working. Do not, under any circumstances, inhale fumes. Do not smoke and avoid open flames and unprotected light sources. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.

NOTE: An odor remover can remove deposits in the heater body, but cannot prevent odors that are carried by the ventilation system, such as odors from damp floor mats.

Pinpoint the source of the musty or damp smell.

2. Disconnect the low pressure switch connector.

3. Turn on the ignition.

NOTE: All vents must be open.

Open all vents.

5. Set the temperature control to maximum.

6. Set the electric fan switch to maximum.

7. Set the air distribution control to fresh air.

8. Start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature.

9. To dry the system, turn off the air conditioning system and ventilate the vehicle for approximately 15 minutes.

10. Turn off the engine.

Focus only

11. Remove the blower fan motor. See Section 412-02A / 412-02B for more information.

Only Ka, 1996 Fiesta and Puma

12. Remove the fan motor resistor.



Only Fiesta with dust filter from model year 2002.25


13. Remove the dust filter. See Section 412-01 for more information.

Fiesta only without dust filter from model year 2002.25

14. Remove the dust filter housing cover.

Only Galaxy

15. Remove the blower fan motor. See Section 412-02A / 412-02B for more information.

All cars

16. Fill the sprayer with deodorant (240 ml).

WARNING: The maximum pressure of 13.5 bar must not be exceeded. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.

Use a tire inflator to apply pressure of 5.5 - 10 bar (operating pressure) to the sprayer.

18. Insert the atomizer hose into the hole as deep as possible, moving it towards the evaporator (showing the body of the Mondeo heater).



19. Move the hose and spray the odor remover all over the surface of the evaporator

20. Spray all of the odor remover into the hole.

• Let the odor remover work for 10 minutes.

21. Reinstall all elements in reverse order.

22. Start the engine, turn off the air conditioning system and ventilate the vehicle for approximately 15 minutes.

23. Open all vents.

24. Set the temperature control to maximum.

25. Set the electric fan switch to maximum.


26. Set the air distribution control to fresh air.

27. Turn off the engine.

28. Connect the low pressure switch connector.

29. Ventilate the car with the doors open for another 30 minutes.
