Inspection and verification
1. Check the customer's complaint.
2. Visually inspect for the following mechanical and electrical causes of the complaint.
Visual Inspection Table
Mechanical factors |
Electrical Factors |
– Trip computer module – The operating mechanism of the control switch located on the steering column |
– Loose or corroded connectors – Plug connections |
3. Perform a self-test using the self-test table.
4. If the test fails, run diagnostics using WDS.
Pinpoint tests
Press and hold the S button for 5 seconds after turning on the ignition to activate the self-test mode. The individual tests can then be carried out in succession by pressing the S button as many times as required. To exit the self-test mode at any time, press the R button.

Turn on the backlight of all displays and segments. The beep generator sends a request signal (duration 0.13 seconds every two seconds). |
1 |
Turn on the backlight of all displays and segments. The beeper is turned off. |
2 |
Requirement: Vehicle is moving. Turn off all displays and segments. The display shows "km/h". The input signal level from the vehicle speed sensor is being evaluated (VSS), the number of pulses is divided by 50 and displayed in discrete form from "000" before "999". |
3 |
Requirement: The engine is running. The display shows "L/h". The input signal from the PCM is being evaluated (fuel consumption), the number of pulses is divided by 10 and shown on the display. |
4 |
The display shows "WL/100km". The display shows the calculated value of the average fuel consumption. |
5 |
The symbol appears on the display "Fuel pump". The value sent by the fuel level sensor is shown directly on the display in liters and/or gallons. If an open occurs in the fuel flow sensor circuit, the display will show "O-C". If a short circuit occurs in the fuel flow sensor circuit, the display shows "S-C". |
6 |
The display shows "----->Fuel pump symbol" and reference voltage value for the fuel gauge sensor. |
7 |
The display shows the symbol "MPG", the currently programmed correction factor for the flow rate value (value can be calibrated between -25 and +25). |
8 |
The display shows the symbol "°C", with the outside temperature displayed directly. Designation "O-C" is shown on the display if the value falls below -40°C or if there is a break in the electrical circuit. Designation "S-C" is shown on the display if the value rises above 65°C or if an open circuit occurs. |
9 |
The instrument illumination dimmer input voltage is compared with an internal value. If the comparison result is positive, the display shows "HI"; if the comparison result is negative, the display shows "LO". |
10 |
The battery voltage is measured. The display shows "Lbt", if the value is less than 11.5 V, the display shows "Hbt", if the value is more than 11.5 V. |
11 |
Display "r8.8". The display shows the current ROM version (example: 2.9) |
12 |
The self-test starts from the beginning. |
