Disassembly
1.
CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the speed sensor wheel.
NOTE: Left side shown, right side similar.
Using the special tools, remove the differential case bearings.
2.
NOTE: The roll pin can be removed through the crankcase.
Remove the differential pinion shaft.
- Remove the pin and discard it as no longer needed.
- Remove the differential pinion shaft.
3. Remove the side gears of the differential.
- 1. Rotate the differential pinions 90 degrees and remove the differential pinions with thrust washers.
- 2. Remove differential side gears with thrust washers.
4. Thoroughly clean all elements using a suitable solvent and dry them with dry compressed air.
5. Inspect the differential components for damage and wear.
- Gear teeth and bores
- Teeth and splines of side gears
- Thrust washers
- Axis of differential pinions
- Bearing and differential case surfaces
Assembly
1. Lubricate gears and thrust washers with clean transmission fluid.
2. Establish satellites and persistent washers of differential.
- 1. Install differential side gears and thrust washers.
- 2. Install the differential pinions and thrust washers by turning them 90 degrees.
3. Establish an axis of satellites of differential.
- 1. Install the pinion shaft.
- 2. Install new pin.
4. Using the special tool, install the differential case bearings.
