Thermostat housing (1.6L Duratec) — removal and installation

Special tool

Coolant hose clamp remover/installer303-397 (24-003)

Withdrawal

1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system. For more information, refer to the chapter Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding Air from the Cooling System found in this section.

2. Lower the car.

3. Remove the air filter outlet pipe.



4. Disconnect the breather hose from the cylinder head cover.



5. Remove the air filter.




6. Using the special tool, disconnect the coolant hose from the thermostat housing cover.



7. Using the special tool, disconnect the cooling system hoses from the thermostat housing.



8. Disconnect the plug connector of the engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT).

• 1.Remove the ECT clip.
• 2.Disconnect the ECT plug from the thermostat housing.

9. Using the special tool, disconnect the coolant hose from the thermostat housing.




10. Remove the thermostat housing. Discard the gasket as it is no longer needed.

Installation

1.

NOTE: Install a new thermostat housing gasket.

Reinstall the elements in reverse order.
