Catalytic converter (Duratec ST 2.0 l) — removal and installation

Withdrawal

1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Section 100-02 for more information.

2. Remove the catalytic converter lower heat shield.



3. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector (HO2S).



4. Remove the HO2S.



5. Disconnect the catalytic converter monitoring oxygen sensor connector.




6. Remove the catalytic converter monitoring oxygen sensor.

CAUTION: Excessive bending of the exhaust pipe flexible connector can cause damage to the exhaust pipe leading to a malfunction.

Support the flexible outlet pipe connector using a suitable bar.



8. Remove a flexible insert of system of release.

• Discard gaskets and nuts as they are no longer needed.

9. Remove the catalytic converter mounting nuts and discard them as no longer needed.

NOTE: Support the catalytic converter.

Remove the catalytic converter support bracket bolts.



11. Remove the catalytic converter.


12. Remove the upper catalytic converter heat shield and oil sump heat shield.

Installation

1.

CAUTION: Never use sealant before the catalytic converter.

NOTE: Apply anti-seize lubricant to the catalytic converter studs.

NOTE: Install new nuts and gaskets.

Reinstall the elements in reverse order.
