Replacing the rear parking brake cables

Replace the rear parking brake cables if they are overstretched (impossibility of adjusting the parking brake), mechanical damage to the cable cores or their sheaths.

You will need: key «on 7», end head «on 10», pliers, flat blade screwdriver.



1. Pry off the edge of the frame of the parking brake lever cover with a screwdriver..



2.... disconnect the frame from the lining of the floor tunnel, overcoming the elastic resistance of its latches, and remove the cover from the lever.



3. Completely loosen the front parking brake cable, to do this, unscrew and remove the lock nut from the threaded end of the cable, and unscrew the adjusting nut to the very end of the end, but do not unscrew the nut completely (cm. «Parking brake actuator adjustment»).


4. From the bottom of the car, remove the thermal screen of the additional muffler (cm. «Removal and installation of thermal screens»).



5. Pull back the lower end of the cable in the equalizer..



6.... and, turning the cable down, remove its tip from the equalizer.



7. Squeezing the clamps of the front stops of the shells of the rear cables with pliers..




8.... remove the stops from the bracket on the body.

NOTE: Pay attention to the fact that the stops of the cable sheaths are of different colors, and the cables themselves are installed in the bracket crosswise (the right rear cable with a white stop is installed in the left hole of the bracket, and the left cable with a black stop is installed in the right hole).

9. Bend the stops in the rear cable connectors..




10.... and, moving the tips deep into the couplings..



11.... disconnect the cables from the couplings.



12. Remove the shell of the right cable from the plastic holder on the body.

NOTE: Replace a damaged holder by unscrewing it from the stud on the body.

13. Bend the steel holder of the left cable sheath..



14.... and remove the cable from the holder.



15. Turn out on one bolt of fastening of holders of cables to levers of a back suspension bracket …



16.... and stretching the holders inside the levers..



17.... remove the rear cables from the car.

18. To replace the rear cable extension installed inside the rear wheel brake mechanism, remove the brake pads of the mechanism (cm. «Replacing the brake pads of the brake mechanism of the rear wheel»).



19. Disconnect the tip of the cable extension from the parking brake release lever.



20. Squeeze the clamps of the extension holder with pliers..



21.... and, pushing the holder into the hole in the brake shield, remove the rear cable extension.

22. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

23. Adjust the parking brake system (cm. «Parking brake actuator adjustment»).
