Removal and installation of a cross-beam of a forward suspension bracket

NOTE: It is more convenient to perform work on a lift.

You will need: keys (or socket heads) «on 10», «at 13», «at 21», TORX T25, flat-blade screwdriver, power steering fluid reservoir, silent block extractor.

1. Set the steering wheel to the position corresponding to the rectilinear movement of the car.



2. In the passenger compartment under the instrument panel, loosen the nut of the terminal connection of the steering shaft with the steering gear shaft and separate the shafts.

3. Place wheel chocks under the rear wheels, hang out the front of the vehicle and remove the front wheels.



4. Press out from the levers of the steering knuckles the pins of the hinges of the outer tips of the steering rods (cm. «Replacing the outer tie rod end»).




5. Press the ball joint pin out of the steering knuckle (cm. «Ball joint replacement»).



6. Pry with a screwdriver..



7.... and remove the left suspension bracket of the exhaust system from the bracket of the front suspension cross member.



8. Similarly remove the right pillow of a suspension bracket of system of release of the fulfilled gases from an arm of a crossbeam of a forward suspension bracket.




9. Turn away a nut of fastening of a finger of a rack of the stabilizer, keeping a finger from turning..



10.... and disconnect the stabilizer link pin from the stabilizer bar.



11. Install a support under the front suspension cross member (e.g. hydraulic stand or jack).



12. Turn out two bolts of fastening of an arm of a crossbar to a body …




13.... one bolt securing the bracket to the cross member..



14.... remove the bolt and remove the cross member bracket.

15. Remove the second cross member bracket in the same way.



16. Turn out the top bolts of fastening of a crossbar of a forward suspension bracket to a body …




17.... and remove them.



18. Turn out the screw of fastening of the holder of tubes …



19.... and remove the holder with tubes from the steering mechanism.



20. Turn out a bolt of fastening of a clamp of tubes …



21.... remove the latch..



22.... disconnect the tubes from the steering mechanism and drain the power steering fluid from them or plug them with plugs.

NOTE: The connection of the tubes to the steering gear is sealed with rubber rings.

NOTE: Replace the rings with new ones each time the connection is disconnected.

23. Remove the front suspension cross member assembly with the lower arms, steering gear and stabilizer bar by lowering it down. Remove the stabilizer bar if necessary (cm. «Replacing parts of the front suspension anti-roll bar»), steering gear (cm. «Steering gear replacement») and lever (cm. «Replacing the front suspension arm»).



24. If replacement is necessary, install the puller and press out the silent block of the front suspension cross member, remembering the position in which it was installed.



25. Press in a new silent block.

26. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the bolts to the torque specified in Appendix 1.

27. Bleed the power steering system (cm. «Bleeding the power steering system»).

28. Check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment in a workshop with special equipment.
