Bleeding the power steering system

pumping (air removal) hydraulic system of the power steering is necessary after any work related to the depressurization of the system (pump or piping replacement). A sign of the presence of air in the system is the wedging of the steering wheel when you try to turn it sharply. In addition, the pump makes an increased noise when the steering wheel is turned, and the liquid in the tank usually foams.

1. Fill the working fluid into the hydraulic booster system up to the mark «MAX» (see «Checking the level and topping up the working fluid in the power steering reservoir»).

2. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel all the way to one side.

WARNING: Do not hold the steering wheel in the end position for more than 10 seconds.

3. Turn the steering wheel all the way in the opposite direction.

4. Turn the steering wheel to the middle position and stop the engine.

5. Check the hydraulic fluid level in the hydraulic booster reservoir and top up if necessary.

NOTE: The level of the working fluid in the tank when the engine is warm should not be above the mark «MAX», when cold - not below the mark «MIN».

6. Repeat steps 2-5 until the fluid level in the reservoir stops dropping.
