Checking the radial and lateral runout of the discs

Pic. 12.2. Surfaces for measuring disc runout: H – radial runout; S - lateral runout

Attach the disc without tire to the axle of the balancing device. Install the measuring tip of the dial indicator first on the radial, and then on the lateral inner surfaces of the disk, on which the tire bead rests (pic. 12.2).

Slowly rotate the balancer disk by hand while reading the indicator. At the same time, do not take into account the deviation of the indicator arrow from local protrusions or recesses on the disk.

If the maximum runout is out of range, replace the disc.

NOTE: Maximum runout of the steel disc: H = 0.8 mm, S = 1.0 mm.

NOTE: The maximum runout of an alloy wheel is: H = S = 1.5 mm.
