Removal and installation of thermal screens

During engine operation, the exhaust system heats up to a high temperature. Therefore, in case of severe mechanical damage to the thermal screens installed above the system elements, be sure to replace them. In addition to reducing the level of comfort in the cabin, a malfunction of thermal screens can lead to charring of the thermal and sound insulation of the body floor.

Removal of the steel additional thermal screen of the collector is described in the process of removing the collector (cm. «Removal, installation of the collector and replacement of its gasket»). Removal of other thermal screens is described in this subsection.

You will need: socket head «on 10», TORX key T20.

NOTE: To gain access to the mounting of the thermal screens of the main and additional mufflers, as well as the exhaust pipe, it is necessary to remove the main and additional mufflers from the vehicle (cm. «Replacement of the main and additional mufflers»).

To remove the thermal screen of the main muffler do the following.



1. Unscrew the two nuts securing the pressure plate, which are simultaneously attached to the underbody of the front edge of the main silencer thermal screen and the left edge of the rear of the additional silencer thermal screen..




2.... and remove the plate.



3. Remove the two screws securing the protective shield, one of which is attached to the main muffler thermal screen..



4.... and remove the shield.



5. Unscrew the back..




6.... and the front nuts for fastening the thermal screen of the main muffler to the fuel tank fastening clamp..



7.... and remove the thermal screen.

8. Install the main silencer thermal screen in the reverse order of removal.

To remove the exhaust pipe heat shield do the following.



1. Turn away three nuts of fastening and remove a thermoscreen.


2. Install the exhaust pipe heat shield in the reverse order of removal.

To remove the rear part of the thermal screen of the additional muffler do the following.

1. Remove the main muffler heat shield (see above in this subsection).



2. Unscrew the remaining three nuts b securing the rear of the thermal screen of the additional muffler..

NOTE: The nut and fastenings of the rear part of the thermal screen of the additional muffler are unscrewed in the process of removing the thermal screen of the main muffler.

NOTE: The front part of the additional muffler thermal shield is attached at the same time with two front nuts b.

3.... and remove the rear of the additional muffler thermal screen.


4. Install the rear of the additional silencer thermal screen in the reverse order of removal.

To remove the front part of the thermal screen of the additional muffler do the following.



1. Unscrew the four nuts securing the front part of the thermal screen of the additional muffler in its middle part..



2.... one fastening nut in its front part and remove the front part of the thermal screen of the additional muffler.

3. Install the front part of the thermal screen of the additional muffler in the reverse order of removal.
