Changing the oil in the gearbox

            0

The design of the gearbox does not provide for oil changes during the entire life of the vehicle. However, sometimes the need to change the oil may arise (for example, when switching to a different viscosity oil, when repairing a gearbox, etc.).

USEFUL ADVICE: It is recommended to drain the oil within 15 minutes after the trip, until it has cooled down and has good fluidity.

You will need: socket heads «for 8», «at 19», hex key «for 8», syringe, wide container for draining oil.

NOTE: Fill the transmission with oil recommended by the manufacturer to Ford specifications. If it is not available, Castrol or Mobil gear oils of API GL-4/5 SAE 80W-90 quality class can be used as a substitute.

NOTE: If the vehicle is operated for a long time at an ambient temperature below -30°C, we recommend replacing the oil filled at the factory with SAE 75W gear oil.

1. Remove the engine mudguard (cm. «Removal and installation of a mudguard of the engine») and engine crankcase protection, if any.

2. Remove the shift cover (cm. «Replacing the transmission control cables»).

3. We recommend that you remove the gearshift cover, as the oil drained from the gearbox will spread inside the cover and then, pouring out of it, pollute the work area. To do this, unscrew the three bolts securing the casing..

4.... and remove it.

NOTE: If equipped with an oil catcher (for example, curly funnel) gearshift cover can not be removed.

5. Remove the oil drain plug..

6.... after substituting a container under the hole, and drain the oil into it. Wait for the oil to drain completely (at least 15 min), and close the cap.

NOTE: There is a magnet on the oil drain plug (shown in the photo with an arrow). Inspect it and clean it of adhering metal particles and dirt. The presence of a large number of metal particles on the magnet indirectly indicates a malfunction of the gearbox. In this case, check and, if necessary, repair the box.

7. Wipe off oil spills with a rag and install the shift cover (if it was filmed).

8. Remove the oil filler plug..

9.... and fill the gearbox with oil up to the lower edge of the oil filler hole (oil will begin to flow out of the hole).

10. Remove any oil spills with a rag and replace the oil filler plug.

11. Install the shift cover and engine mudguard.
