Removal and installation of blocks of airbags of safety

Warning: Handle the airbag with extreme care so that its cover does not point in your direction. If you have any doubts about the airbag or its control circuit, contact your dealer.


Warning: Place the pillow with the cover up. Please note that the airbag must not be at temperatures above 100°C.


Do not attempt to open or repair the pad or tamper with the electrical part of the system to do so. damaged (and, in particular, as a result of mismanagement) pillow cannot be used.


Driver airbag unit


1. Disconnect the negative battery cable (chapter 5 paragraph 1).

Warning: As a precaution, pause (at least 15 min) in case of unintentional deployment of the airbag. This is the time needed to dissipate the charge of the capacitor.


2. Turn the steering wheel so that one of the holes in which the fixing bolt is installed is located above the upper casing of the steering column.

3. Turn out a fixing bolt. Then turn the steering wheel to a pop turn and remove the rest of the bolts (see fig. 28.3).



4. Gently pull the airbag assembly out of the steering wheel just enough to unplug the electrical connector. Then remove the pillow assembly (see fig. 28.4).




5. Installation - in the reverse order of removal.

Front seat passenger airbag unit


6. Disconnect the negative battery cable (chapter 5A).

7. Remove the glove box (chapter 11).

Release models up to 1996


8. Remove the three screws from the panel behind the glove box. Remove the panel.

9. Turn out the screw of fastening of the end of an air duct of ventilation and disconnect an air duct from the front panel and a deflector.

10. Disconnect the two electrical connectors for the airbag inflator wiring, noting their position.

11. While supporting the cushion assembly, remove the four screws securing it and remove the assembly.

12. Installation - in the reverse order of removal.

Release models since 1997


13. Turn out three screws from the panel located behind a glove box, then remove a clamp from its right side. Remove the panel. Disconnect the bulb holder.

14. Carefully cut the wiring harness ties at the top of the glove box opening.


15. Remove the audio block (paragraph 23).

16. Inside the opening for the audio unit, remove the screws securing the ventilation duct on the passenger side to the front panel deflector.

17. Disconnect the air duct from the deflector and remove the deflector from the front panel.

18. Disconnect the wiring connector at the end of the airbag.

19. While supporting the cushion assembly, remove the four screws securing it and remove the assembly.

20. Installation - in the reverse order of removal.

Side airbag unit


21. These units are built into the front seats. To remove them, you need to remove the upholstery. Therefore, such work should be ordered by dealers.
