Repair operations performed without removing the engine

            0

The following operations can be performed without removing the engine from the vehicle. However, please note that any procedure that requires the removal of the pallet must be carefully considered based on your experience and the availability of tools and fixtures. See text for details.
  • A) Compression test
  • b) Removal and installation of a cover of a head of the block
  • V) Removal and installation of covers of a gear belt of the gas distribution mechanism
  • G) Timing Timing Belt Replacement
  • d) Removal and installation of the tensioner and toothed pulleys of the timing belt
  • e) Replacement of cuffs of camshafts
  • and) Removal and installation of camshafts and hydraulic lifters
  • h) Removal, repair and installation of the block head
  • And) Removing carbon deposits from the cylinder head and pistons
  • To) Removal and installation of the pallet
  • l) Replacing crankshaft seals
  • m) Removal and installation of the oil pump
  • n) Removal and installation of connecting rod and piston groups (note see below)
  • O) Removal and installation of the flywheel / faceplate
  • P) Removal and installation of support of the engine / transmission

Before starting work, clean the engine compartment and the outer surfaces of the engine with a degreaser.

Depending on the components you will be servicing, it may be helpful to remove the hood first to improve access (see chapter 11). Cover wings to protect paint.

Detection of oil, coolant, exhaust, and vacuum leaks indicates the need to replace the related gaskets or seals. This repair can be done without removing the engine. Gaskets for the intake and exhaust manifold, pan, block head, crankshaft cuffs are quite accessible for this.

External components such as intake and exhaust manifolds, sump, oil pump, coolant pump, starter motor, alternator and fuel system components can also be removed without removing the engine.

Since the cylinder head can be removed without removing the engine, maintenance of the camshafts and valve train, as well as replacing the timing belt and its pulleys, can be performed without removing the engine.

In the event that you do not have the necessary equipment, repair or replacement of piston rings, pistons, connecting rods and connecting rod bearings can be done without removing the engine from the car. However, to improve access and maintain cleanliness, these operations should be performed after the engine has been removed. Therefore, they are described in chapter 2B.
