Note: Although any collar can be removed immediately after removing the corresponding pulley (see paragraph 11), However, this method of removing the cuffs is not recommended. This is due to the fact that the cuffs are very soft and it is very difficult to remove them without risking damage to the cuff body, as well as those. that it is difficult to restore the timing and belt tension after changing the position of the timing components. Therefore, it is recommended that you complete the procedure below.
1. Loosen belt tension (paragraph 10 item 1-14).
Note: If the belt is found to be contaminated with oil, remove it completely and then replace the cuffs (see below). Wash the surface of the engine and related components in the belt area to remove traces of oil. When assembling, install a new belt.
2. If the belt is clean, pull it off the toothed pulley. At the same time, try not to bend it too much, working only with your fingers. Do not turn the crankshaft until the belt is installed. Cover the belt and secure it so that it is clear of the work area and that it does not slip off the rest of the toothed pulleys.
3. Turn out a bolt of a pulley and remove a pulley (paragraph 11).
4. Turn out bolts of a cover of the right bearing of a camshaft and pull out a defective cuff. Clean the cuff body and polish any burrs or sharp edges that could damage the new cuff.
5. To install a new cuff, a tool is recommended (Ford 21-009 B), and also the bolt (M10 70 mm long) with puck. A tool will be required to install the seal in place when the camshaft bearing cap is bolted. The same can be done with a suitable bushing (see fig. 12.5). Lubricate the lips of the seal to ease installation and slide the seal into place flush with the outer edge of the bearing cap/housing. Mount the bearing cap with sealant and tighten its bolts in accordance with paragraph 13.
6. However, you can install the cuff in an easier way. Lubricate its edges and pull the seal on the camshaft so that it is flush with the outer edge of the housing. Mount the bearing cap with sealant and tighten its bolts in accordance with paragraph 13 (see fig. 12.6). The cuff should fit against the body without distortions, and when the cover is tightened, it should not be deformed.
7. Install the pulley on the camshaft and lightly tighten the mounting bolt. Then put the toothed belt on the pulley (18 and 21 paragraph 10) and tighten the bolt securely. Other installation operations, including camshaft alignment (gas distribution mechanism) and restoring the belt tension, perform as indicated in paragraphs. 22-27 paragraph 10.
