Power block removal methods and precautions

If you decide that the engine needs an overhaul, follow the preparatory procedures.

The convenience of the place of work is very important. This requires sufficient space for work and space to store the vehicle. When carrying out repairs outside the workshop or garage, at least select a flat, level, clean area.

Cleaning the engine compartment and engine/transmission unit before starting repairs helps keep the tools clean and tidy.

The engine can only be removed together with the transmission. To do this, you need to install the car on supports, raising it to a height sufficient to remove the power unit from under the car. Therefore, you will need a reliable lifting mechanism with a lifting capacity that exceeds the weight of the power unit. Observe safety when removing the power unit from the vehicle. Inattention to work can lead to injury.

If you are doing this kind of work, invite an assistant. Advice and help from a more experienced person will be useful to you. For various reasons, one person is not always able to perform all the operations necessary to lift and remove the engine from the car.

Plan your work ahead of time. Before starting work, select all tools and equipment. To remove and install the engine, you will need (in addition to the lifting device) items such as a mobile jack, a set of wrenches and nozzles (see "Tools and fixtures"), wooden linings, rags.

Consider the repair process. Mechanical processing requires operations that the owner of the car cannot perform without special equipment.
