General information
Charging system includes alternator, with built-in tensioner, low battery indicator (or "ignition''), battery, as well as the wires connecting all these components. This system provides power to the ignition system, lights, audio unit, etc. The alternator is driven by an accessory drive belt located on the front of the engine.
The purpose of the voltage regulator is to maintain the voltage corresponding to the set value. This prevents voltage peaks, circuit overload, etc.
The loading system does not require periodic maintenance. However, the accessory drive belt, battery and wires, and electrical connections should be inspected as scheduled (Chapter 1). The indicator on the front panel should light up when the ignition key is turned to position II or III, and then - immediately after starting the engine - it should go out. If the indicator does not go out or lights up when the engine is running, this indicates a malfunction in the charging system (paragraph 11). If the indicator does not light up when the ignition key is turned, and its bulb is working (chapter 12). This means the alternator is faulty.
Precautionary measures
Be extremely careful when connecting electrical circuit connectors and consider the following:
- A) When connecting the wires coming from the battery to the generator, observe the polarity.
- b) Before performing electric welding work on the vehicle, disconnect the wires from the alternator and battery.
- V) Never start the engine while the battery is connected to the charger.
- G) Always disconnect both battery leads before connecting the charger to the battery.
- d) The alternator drive belt can cause a serious accident if it comes into contact with your hand or clothing.
- e) Since the alternator is connected directly to the battery, in the event of an overload or short circuit, it can spark and even cause a fire.
- and) Before cleaning the engine with steam or washing it with a liquid jet, put a plastic bag on the generator and fix it with electrical tape.
- h) Never disconnect the wires from the generator terminals while the engine is running.
