Removal and installation of a gear wheel of a drive of a speedometer

Withdrawal

1. This gear is mounted on the right rear of the transmission. Apply the parking brake, raise the front end and place it on stands.

2. Remove the nut and disconnect the speedometer cable from the vehicle speed sensor. Loosen the nut with one wrench and hold the sensor with the other.

3. Disconnect the wiring from the vehicle speed sensor.

4. Remove the clamp bolt and remove the clamp plate, retaining gear and vehicle speed sensor on the transmission.

5. Pull out the gear and bearing assembly along with the vehicle speed sensor.

6. Unscrew the vehicle speed sensor from the gear bearing.

7. Remove gear from bearing.

8. Using a small screwdriver, pry the rubber O-ring out of the bearing groove. Purchase a new one to install.

9. Wipe the gear and bearing, as well as the mounting hole in the transmission housing.

Installation

10. Installation - in the reverse order of removal. Lubricate the new O-ring with oil and insert it into the transmission housing. Tighten the bolt with a clamp.
