Removal and installation of the master cylinder

Withdrawal

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable (chapter 5A).

2. Inside the passenger compartment, move the driver's seat back as far as it will go to provide access. Remove the fasteners from the lower section of the front panel trim on the driver's side and remove it.

3. Get ready to eliminate smudges.

4. Remove the cover of the reservoir of the brake hydraulic system. Cover the canister with plastic wrap and tighten the canister lid over the plastic so that no air enters the canister.

5. To access the hydraulic system connections at the points of their passage through the bulkhead of the engine compartment, move the wiring and hoses. On models with 4-cylinder engines, remove the air cleaner intake hose and intake air duct chamber (chapter 4A). On models with V-6 engines, it may be necessary to remove the top section of the intake manifold (chapter 2B).

6. Inside the passenger compartment, release the clamps and disconnect (upper) hose from master cylinder (see fig.5.6). Plug the end of the hose to minimize leaks.

7. To take off (lower) pipeline, pull back the elastic clamp and pull the pipeline end cap out of the cylinder base. Plug the end of the pipeline to minimize leaks.

8. In the driver's footwell, open the elastic ring that secures the master cylinder in its upper part with the clutch pedal.

9. Loosen the nuts securing the cylinder and pull it out through the baffle and footwell, preventing leakage.

Installation

Installation - in the reverse order of removal:
  • A) Tighten the nuts to the required torque.
  • b) Secure the injection hose with a new clamp.
  • V) Install the removed components.
  • G) Remove the film and add liquid to the tank (see Weekly checks).
  • d) Eliminate air from the hydraulic system (chapter 10).
  • e) If the fluid level in the reservoir has dropped significantly, it may be necessary to remove air from the brake hydraulic system (chapter 9).
