2. Install the drive shaft in a vise.
3. Mark the shaft and pivot housing to align when installed.
4. Note the position in which both clips of the inner hinge boot are installed. Release the clips and pull the boot over the drive shaft (see Fig. 4.4, a, b).
5. Carefully knock out the outer pivot hub from the splines of the input shaft using a copper drift or a copper-faced hammer. Before the inner elastic rings come out of the groove, you will feel some resistance. Be careful not to damage the bearing cage (see Fig. 4.5, a, b).
6. Remove the elastic ring from the end of the shaft (see fig.4.6).
7. Pull the cover over the remaining ring and remove it along with the rings.
8. Clean the drive shaft and purchase a new pivot retainer ring. The case clips also need to be replaced.
9. Pull the new boot over the inner elastic ring onto the drive shaft along with the new clips (see fig.4.9).
10. Install a new outer elastic ring in the shaft groove.
11. Remove old grease. Fill the inside of the joint with new grease (approx. 100 g CV joint grease), see Fig.4.11.
12. Install the hinge on the splines of the input shaft. Tap it until the inner elastic rings snap into place in the groove.
13. Pull the cover along the shaft and install it on the hinge and on the CV joint housing. The end of the small diameter boot should fit into the groove on the drive shaft.
14. Check that the hinge must not be twisted or bent. Then insert a small screwdriver under the edge of the cover from the side of the case. This is necessary to allow air to escape during the next operation.
15. Pull out the screwdriver, and then install the clamps and tighten them.
