Removing the wheel bearing

            0

To replace a wheel bearing, use various special drifts and press dies, which can in any case be replaced by suitable auxiliary drifts. All removed retaining rings and self-locking nuts, which will be discussed below, must be replaced. A two- or three-arm puller is also required to disconnect the hub and steering knuckle. Remove the steering knuckle to replace the wheel bearing (see below).

Most often, the steering knuckle and wheel bearing are separated using a universal puller - the hub is pressed from the inside of the steering knuckle. Alternatively, tap the hub flange with a light metal drift through the bearing. The inner support ring of the bearing remains on the flange, which is also removed with a puller.

Remove the wheel bearing as follows:

- Install the steering knuckle with a vise with aluminum jaws and knock out the hub from the inside out;

Note: Be careful not to damage the ABS sensor rim located on the inside of the hub.

- Take out by means of a suitable puller the basic ring of the bearing which has remained in a nave;

- use a collet to remove the retaining rings of the bearing from the hole of the steering knuckle (pic. 187) and wring out other parts of the bearing from the steering knuckle using a suitable drift, or carefully knock out;

- insert new parts of the bearing into the steering knuckle and secure with circlips; check that the rings are securely fixed;

- the hub flange is pressed into the bearing and steering knuckle;

- if there is no suitable press nearby, then insert a threaded rod with large discs through the hub and knuckle and tighten the nuts in front and behind.

Carry out further assembly in the reverse order.
